Ceramic Spoon Rests

Every spoon rest here is hand-built and painted by hand, the same way I make the plates. I draw a classic sauce recipe straight onto it, then fire it in the kiln. Nothing is printed, and no two come out the same.

It’s where you rest the spoon you just stirred the sauce with. The recipe on the rest, the sauce in the pot, the same dish in both places.
Made to sit by the stove and actually be used.

Franci Pots collection of hand-painted ceramic spoon rests: Bolognese, Cacio e Pepe and Tomato Sauce

Three sauces, one for the spoon you stir them with.

The craft

What "handmade" actually means here.

Most spoon rests are stamped out by the thousand and printed. Mine aren’t. I hand-build each one, so the shape is mine before any paint goes on, then I draw the recipe on by hand.
You feel it the moment you pick one up, and no two are ever quite the same.

For everyday

A spoon rest lives by a hot pan and catches a hot, dripping spoon, so it’s made to take it. Heat-safe, dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe. Stir your sauce, rest the spoon, wipe it down, do it again tomorrow. The painting is fired into the glaze, so the heat and the washing never wear it away.

Your options

Choosing yours.

Each spoon rest is a hand-drawn recipe. What changes is the colour I paint it in.

  • Two recipes: Bolognese, Cacio e Pepe, or Tomato Sauce.
  • Three colours: Admiral Blue, Dark Olive Green, or Sangria Red.
  • Made to order: I start yours from raw clay only after you order, so allow about a month.

How it works.

A new batch opens the first Sunday of every month at 7pm AWST. Ten spots, first come. Join the list and you’ll hear first, then choose your plate or commission your own, and over the next few weeks I make it by hand and send you updates as it takes shape.

The maker

Made by one pair of hands.

I’m Franci. I trained as an art conservator in Italy, and now I make every plate by hand from my studio in Western Australia. You’ll watch yours take shape, from raw clay to the last brushstroke, and if it ever arrives damaged, I’ll make you a new one, free.
